Back to Writing, Sale and Other Good News

Lately my energy has been diverted away from this blog towards sick children and other non-writing stuff (or anti-writing stuff, if you like). I'm not a big fan of not writing fiction, and things are looking up a bit, so I plan on revising a couple of short stories in the coming days. After a distinctly non-creative period, this is one of my ways back into the rugged country of inspiration.

I would have returned to writing anyway, but I was certainly spurred on by a sale to
Space&Time Magazine a short while ago. The story, entitled Expert Adman, takes a serious look at what advertising tells us as opposed to that thing we call reality.

And yesterday I got a phone call from Joni at the
Writers of the Future Contest, who informed me that one of my stories is a finalist in this quarter of the contest. A very pleasant surprise and a strong incentive to keep writing.

Congrats on both counts!

I got a quick, but personalized rejection from Space&Time a few weeks ago. Alas, my second rejection wasn't personalized.

Thanks! Rejections are part of the writing business, but never a welcome part of it. Plus, it's not a part that writers talk about as much as sales. Why, the vain part of me hardly dares to admit that I have scraped together 150 rejections -- it could mean I'm a bad writer!?! But rejections don't actually say that. They're just an unwanted side-effect of submitting stories to magazines.
