Who wrote the book of Love?

(a Golden Oldie)

Wise question. Googling wrong might get you "Hook of love" or "Look of love" (by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, btw.)

The golden oldie you're referring to can only be "Amores" by the Roman poet Ovid. It's a rousing work of poetry involving infatuation, passion, jealousy, love in the midday heat, betrayal, an old crone unveiling the true nature of women's love, and the decline in desire in favor of the truer, everlasting love of poetry.

It had the status of a Holywood Blockbuster in its time. I'm not sure that Ovid didn't write it tongue in cheek -- he twisted many well-worn themes of Latin poetry. But as always with Ovid, he handled this poem with all the passion of a true master, whose works have stood the test of time.
