Do You Sleep-Text?

Apparently the Danes have started doing that. It's a form of Parasomnia - behavior during sleep that doesn't disturb the sleep itself, like going to the bathroom or grinding your teeth - and it's a sign that texting has been so ingrained in our culture that we can do it unconsciously.

I can't help wonder when we'll have sleep-jetpack-flying. I mean, we are living in the future, aren't we?

Presumably some LJ posts get made while their perpetrators are asleep! Still, those will pale into insignificance damage-wise compared with sleepy-FB shares or, heaven forbid, sleep-tweets...

Some troll commenters sound like they're on autopilot. Perhaps they've got a head start on all those pesky free thinkers who have to be awake to blog.

I foresee an arms race involving caffeine deprivation, sleeping pills and physical exhaustion...

I think you're right about that arms race!

Though I should point out that I have suffered a case of trolls... yet!

I've tried texting. When I must, I text my daughter, but I can tell you that it's only been about 4 times in the past 5 years. My fingers just can't work that fast on the buttons of a phone. No, I don't have one of those super cell phones that has an actually keyboard. I have ten buttons to work with that represent multiple letters. I would think doing this in your sleep would give you a headache.

Now that idea of jet-pack flying in my sleep sounds great. There are so many places I want to see or revisit.

It doesn't sound like you're in danger of sending annoying messages to your boss at night - though I suspect it could happen to some of those people.

I like the idea of going around the world with a jetpack too. 'Jet-pack dream tours' has quite a ring to it :-)

I have actually dreamed in IM (instant messaging, not texting) on several occasions. Crazy.

That's funny :-) I actually can't recall if I ever dreamed about texting or writing things on a computer. You'd think it'd slip into my nightly thoughts with all the writing I do, but I don't remember it.

I sometimes dream in German, and most of what I 'say' to people in those dreams make perfect sense, though I speak it haltingly when I'm awake. I'd really love to know why.
