Game of Thrones - The Power of Fantasy

In a moment (when the kids are asleep), Mrs. D. and I will start on season three of Game of Thrones.

Politiken (local paper) printed a long article about live action role playing and what GoT has meant for them in terms of public acceptance of fantasy and role playing. And let me tell you, role playing is facing long odds in a country where more people are willing to spend their weekends tidying their driveways with a pair of tweezers than dress up as orcs or wizards. GoT is changing that attitude--a little, at least (those tweezer people are pretty resistant to common sense).

Anyway, Politiken also talked to Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister. He said he wouldn't have watched GoT because of the fantasy elements, but that changed because he participated. And according to the article, his Danish actor colleagues felt the same way:

When Nikolaj Coster-Waldau came back to Denmark and told them that he'd landed a role in an HBO-series, it was as if 'they died a little inside' at first.

"Everybody wants to act in an HBO-series, so they could hardly take it," [Nikolaj Coster-Waldau said]. "But when I told them that it wasn't some cool gritty stuff like 'The Wire', but something with dragons, they felt much better.

"And now they're back in pain."

I'll be thrilled in just a moment when the kids are sleeping. And they better hurry!
