Things I've Been up to Lately

·         Finished root canal therapy. Dentist figured out a way to make the anesthetic work, so I had a blast got through it ok.

·         Reading a book about the revolution in neurological research. There's a lot of inspiration for stories in that book. Though, being a historian and not a neuroscientist, I'll probably have to read a dozen more to get my facts right :-)

·         Working on the novel I started with NaNoWriMo. I stored that one in a cool dry place after November, but after a minor return of the blues earlier in the year, I've picked it up again. For the first time I know how it's going to end, and the conclusion doesn't even feel forced to me (which is a problem I sometimes run into with short stories). I'm enjoying the twists and turns of the story and even think (hope?) they follow an inner logic. And so I've punched in another 10K words, leaving me with a third of the draft to go. I hope the momentum keeps up.

Much of the writing has taken place in the company of my splendid real-life writing group. Lately we've had some very successful writing sessions in cafés, sharing ideas, swapping suggestions, and generally getting some of those words on paper/screen. If anyone feels like dropping by Aarhus for a writing get-together, let me know :-)

·         Learning to play the guitar. This involves lots of notes and little cohesion. Much like some of my earlier writing.

·         Watching the World Cup. And the Tour de France has just begun. Lovely.

·         Balancing parenting, work, writing, and mental resources. Generally successful on all counts.

You have no idea how much I would LOVE "dropping by Aarhus" - if only, if only....

Great that you're enjoying your novel! Keep going!

I'm serious about that invitation, but I realize I'm not exactly in the neighborhood :-) And thanks, I hope to push on with the novel in the weeks to come.
