Forward The Writer

Two rejections over the weekend, marking the 43th and 44th r-in-a-row. Not exactly encouraging, but that's what you get for being a hack ;-) I'm sending the stories back out, of course, but I'm sure looking forward to the day I break the dry spell.

Fortunately I'm a productive hack at the moment. I'm well past the two-third mark of my novel draft, and the writing has been going steadily forward for a number of days. The scenes are even congealing into a story, and I have a not entirely predictable ending in mind. I really hope to type the words "DONE" sometime soon, but on the other hand I know that pushing myself won't do any good. We'll see. In the meantime, back to the characters I've got trapped in the jungle.

Dang, sorry about the rejections. But huzzah! for not allowing them to discourage you.

Your characters are trapped in the jungle, and mine are about to be tossed about on some rapids along a very wild and uninhabited stretch of river. Maybe they'll meet up along the way. :)

drat! That huzzah was supposed to be sparkly. I don't know what's going on with my graphics today!

Thank you for the Huzzah! I'll let my inner graphics editor add the sparkles :-)

Maybe they'll meet up along the way.

Well, the rapids are too far upriver for our characters to bump into each other. If your novel is anything like mine, your stretch of the river will certainly be uninhabited... by humans, anyway. Be sure to tell your characters not to go ashore until they reach Gnkhale ;-)

Hey! The graphics were in the response email. That's really strange. Hmmm...I'll never understand cyberworld, methinks.

Nothing along this stretch of the river but treepiggens. But Gnkhale, huh? I'll be sure to have them stumble onto...erm...I mean AVOID going ashore there.

Keep sending them out! It will happen. I reached 60+ consecutive rejections by early June, then 3 acceptances in rapid time. Hopefully, you'll see the same effect.

Tentacles crossed!

Thanks, just the reminder I needed :-) And yes, I've already sent them out again.

Thanks, Jon. I definitely will. Writing that novel is great fun right now, so why stop? :-)

Heres looking forward to the puddle that will break the dry spell.

Working on it :-) And thanks for the encouragement.

Seems like a lot of people are having dry spells. Mine lasted about 14 months. And there was a long dry spell before that, too. Hope I don't get a third! And hopefully yours will end soon, too!

Thanks for the encouragement! You're right, dry spells come and go. I'm also mostly submitting to top markets at the moment, which probably accounts for my difficulties in making a sale.

Yeah, that's what was happening to me, too.
