Surveillance

I'm definitely an opponent of the surveillance proliferation in the western democracies. For instance, the Danish government knows every website I visit. The Brits have long since plastered cameras all over their streets. And the Swedes are currently scanning all phone calls and mails routed through Sweden, which is a problem for anybody using Swedish telephone or internet services.

I keep hearing the same argument over and over again: It's for your own security! Just a tool to protect you from the Terrorists! Well, the hydrogen bomb was a tool to protect me from the Soviet Union, but that didn't mean I wanted the damned thing in my back yard. But whereas the cold war has resulted in a massive arms reduction, we've yet to see any disarmament of the secret government services.

Spreading this message would be easier if a few musicians got involved, so here's my top 5 list of records that would get the public's attention:

1)
Amy Winehouse: Back to Black Ops

2)      Robbie Williams: I've Been Inspecting You

3)      Dire Straits: Camera On Every Street (including the hit 'Private Investigations')

4)      Robbie Williams: Life Through A Lens * 10^6

5)      The Beach Boys: Surfin' NSA

Confession time: I would have headlined the post 'Punsters for privacy', but some people just run away screaming from puns.
