The Year in Short

The headline suggests a PowerPoint show. 2011 was not the year I became convinced of PP's entertainment value, though, but I have not yet given up on bullet points. So here goes - The Writer's 2011 in easily digested headlines:

  • Four short story publications. Among them was my first professional publication, Meditation for the Dead in Flash Fiction Online.
  • Big T was published via Darwin's Evolutions, which has led to some new interesting internet relations.
  • One novel drafted and revised - soon to be marketed.
  • Visited EuroCon in Stockholm and had a blast.
  • NaNoWriMo completed in November, which led to:
  • Another 70K of novel drafted - soon to be completed and revised.
  • One RL writing group frequented, enjoying it very much.
  • Joined Google+ and Twitter, which makes me feel strangely exposed on the internet. I still much prefer LJ to the other media, but I use Twitter a lot more than I thought I would (as @jakobdrud)
  • Built a website (jakobdrud.com)
  • A bunch of short stories finished.
  • Another (larger) bunch of short stories read, along with 23 novels (including all volumes of A Song of Ice and Fire)
  • And last but not least: The children are one year older and even more wonderful than last year :-)

If I am to stray from the headlines and go into more philosophical territory, I'd say that 2011 was a year when I really settled into the role as a writer. With all the novel-writing I've found a pace that I can keep up and a feeling that I'm doing something I enjoy every day. I'll certainly try to keep that momentum in 2012.

And if I am to wax all sentimental and misty-eyed, I'll say I've never enjoyed myself as much on LJ as I have this year with all of you. :´-) I hope every one of you reading this will have a great 2012.

Congratulations on your first pro sale! It sounds like 2011 was a wonderful year. Good luck with the novel revisions, and may 2012 be just as successful, if not moreso.
