Internet Debates - I'll stay the **** away

I made a comment in a thread on a group I belong to, and boy, that didn't go well. At best I made a fool of myself by speaking up against an established consensus, at worst, some people are going to think I hate women - which I honestly think couldn't be farther from the truth. I apologized, but blerg! I really, really should stay away from internet forums.

Well, that's just venting. But since I'm finally here, a quick update on normal life - which is pretty normal at the moment. I get a little short story writing done, slotted in between writing assignments from paying customers. We're also in the birthday season, celebrating both kids as they grow big(!) My son is going to start school in August, and he's so ready to take on the world and all of the new stuff they'll throw at him in school. That makes me a very proud father.

In the home department, we're having the kitchen rebuilt, which calls for some extra hours moving glasses, and cups, and knives, and breadbaskets, and the pasta machine, and boxloads of other kitchen utensils to the living room... which has to be emptied of books to make room for the aforementioned glasses etc. I'm really looking forward to the new kitchen, and I will post photos.

And hopefully, I'll have a very, very exciting announcement here soon (*secret, secret, tease, tease*)

Sorry for being a tease (no, not really), but saying something before the final confirmation would be premature. But even if the deal doesn't go through for some reason, I'll still have a story to tell :-)

Yay! Looking forward to hearing. And I read the kerfluffle (although you'd already rescinded by then) and yeah, it's hard when you're just trying to help and end up inserting foot in mouth. I do it all the time. ((hugs))

Thanks for the hugs. I didn't realize how much I needed them before you sent them.

I'm sure that whatever you conveyed at that forum wasn't meant to hurt feelings. As a woman, and a strange one at that, I probably would have agreed with you. I find that so many women are way too sensitive and really do not take the time to understand what a man may be actually trying to say. They're so busy being women that they don't make time to just be an individual.

Minor home renovation is in our near future. New doorways, new plumbing, new furniture, and maybe new cupboards in the kitchen. Once yours is done, you'll be grinning from ear to ear with pleasure. I hope you with share photos with us.

Yeah, you'll have photos :-) (Lots!) Our current kitchen is mostly 'origial' (vintage?) from 1981, but the previous owners changed the table top some 12(?) years ago. It's rotting through at the faucet, so something must be done.

That internet kerfuffle... Well, I picked a very sensitive topic. I stepped on toes without meaning to, got told where I was wrong, and apologized. (I also lost a some respect for a few people who succumbed to mob mentality and hostile comments.) I sure ain't proud, but everyone is alive and well today, and that's what matters.

sometimes I think people just look for things to go on at you about--like grammar police but taken to whole new levels minus the humor.

Looking forward to your news.

I used to go to a neo-con website just to argue with the common consensus there, and while it was fun at first, the constant negativity was draining. Plus, thanks to the nature of the Internet, an argument that would be over in a half hour in the real world stretches out for days on blogs.

What you say about the real world is so true. We also have body language to cue us in to the feelings of other people. If we're stepping on toes without wanting to, we have the option of holding back or explaining or gesturing.

I have a friend I simply cannot text with, because she is too sarcastic and it throws me off not hearing her tone of voice.
